Surfing in Figueira da Foz
The two well known surfing breaks in Figueira da Foz are Cabadelo and Buarcos.
Cabadelo is situated South of Figueira da Foz across the mouth of the
River Mondego. You can cross the bridge either by taxi or bus (buses
run every half hour on weekdays and the fare is €0.85), if you have
your own transport there is plenty of parking at Cabadelo. Buarcos can
be reached by foot, just walk along Figueira da Foz's main beach to the
end.
If you'd prefer to use transport, buses run from the station to
Buarcos every half hour on weekdays and hourly on weekends, expect to
pay around €0.85 for the fare. There is parking at Buarcos, but be
warned- it gets very busy in the height of the season! There're also other breaks nearby which can be epicand uncrowded but we can't tell you about them unless you visit us.

Cabadelo
A breakwater with sandbars found at the mouth of the River Mondego,
that has been host to the WQS, national and local surfing competitions.
The best conditions to surf Cabadelo are in medium swells, the break is
off-shore in Easterly winds. The break works on all states of the tide.
Buarcos
A less well-known but equally as good as Cabadelo in the right
conditions. It works best on mid to low tides. This is a right-hand,
sand covered rocky point break and there can be strong rips when the
swell is big, so only attempt to surf this break if you're experienced.
Other breaks
There's loads of other breaks within walking distance, public transport and driving - but we're not going to tell you about them until you're here, we can't have the whole world knowing about all the spots!
