Figueira’s main beach is reputed to be the widest beach in Europe, taking you a good 5-10 minutes to walk across the sand to reach the ocean! During summer it’s always beautifully hot for sunbathing, and in the summer months the beach is covered in candy-striped beach huts, which can be rented by the day. Make one of these your base and you can retreat into the shade when you need a break from the sunshine. Or if you’re feeling active, there are tennis courts and football courts to play around on, and every year the European Beach Rugby and Volleyball championships are held here which make for some good entertainment! The beach has lifeguards, to ensure your safety make sure you only go for a dip in front of the lifeguard posts, which can be found all of the way along Figueira da Foz's beach up to Buarcos.
A few bars are actually situated right down on the beach, such as the man made ‘Oasis’ where you can sit with a nice cold drink on the deck watching the sun go down.
