Find the Paintshop Hostel & Bar in Figueira da Foz

Situated at the mouth of the Rio Mondego on the Atlantic Coast between Lisbon and Porto, Figueira da Foz is a lively seaside resort most famous for its huge beach, reportedly the widest in Europe. Aside from the size of the beach, the waves at Cabadello are well known to surfers as a regular staging ground for national, European and WQS events.

The Paintshop Hostel is ideally located, just a 5 minute walk from Figueira da Foz town centre with its bustling pastelarias, cafes, bars, parks and large indoor market and only a further 3 minute walk to the main beach. A short stroll along the seafront brings you to Buarcos, a former fishing village, which still retains its pretty, if faded, charm. This is where surfers can find a right-hand, sand covered, rocky point break, noted as one of Portugal’s best-kept secrets in the Footprint Guide to Surfing Europe.

The location of the Paintshop Hostel is ideal for backpackers with great access to all transport links as it is situated close to a local taxi rank and just a short walk from the train and bus stations. For those driving to the hostel, there is plenty of free parking in the vicinity of the hostel, either on the street or in the large free car park, just 200 metres away.

Directions

The train/bus station is about 7-10 minutes walk from our hostel. You leave the station and walk straight along the Rua da Republica until you reach Praca Oito de Maio (taxi square) the hostel is situated behind the square. Take the exit in the top left of the square (Rua dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra by the old FIAT garage), then first right and Rua da Clemencia is almost immediately on your left. We are numbers 7-11, someone will always be around to open the door between 7am and 12pm. Outside of these hours please call us on the number provided - or call if you get lost!!
